Organic Mattress
|
The demand for an organic mattress particularly organic baby mattress and organic crib mattresses, has risen dramatically in recent years. As more and more people are changing to an organic mattress this is bringing the consumer more variety as well as driving the price down. The choice is not just being made to feel good and have a peaceful environmentally friend good night sleep. |

One of the most important reasons people will choose an organic mattress over a conventional one is that it is chemical free and therefore a safer and healthier choice of bedding, particularly for the organic baby. There are some drawbacks and we will attempt to help you in your decision making whether or not to purchase an organic mattress.
Advantages of the Organic Mattress
With the sharp rise in allergies and chemical related diseases the biggest advantage of the pure 100% organic mattress is its absence of toxic chemicals. Polyurethane foam that is mostly used in making synthetic mattresses may trigger allergies in some people. The cotton used in the more natural mattress still may have traces of formaldehyde in it, used to prevent shrinkage.
The organic materials of wool and cotton used in the organic mattress will not be allowed to have been treated with any toxic chemicals otherwise it loses its organic certification. The added advantage, particularly for organic baby mattresses and crib mattresses is that organic wool is a a natural dust mite repellant; hence the organic mattress will have less dust accumulation which will make it safer and healthier to sleep on. Since many babies and children are developing dust mite allergies the organic mattress is the best bet for the young ones.
When Buying and Organic Mattress Watch Out
Not all the organic mattresses on the market are 100% organic. Some organic mattresses are treated with fire-retardant chemicals (formaldehyde), coated with plastics to render them waterproof, covered with polyester to wash easily and so on. Ask questions about the manufacturing process and particularly if any chemicals are used in the treating of the mattress. Ask for an organic mattress that is one hundred percent organic if chemical toxicity is a concern for you.
